Style kits

A style kit is a complete look for your website: a pair of typefaces, a set of colours, and how much space sits between sections. Choosing one restyles every page at once.

Switching kits touches no content. Your pages, photographs and posts stay exactly as they are — only the styling changes.

Switching kits on a hosted plan (Sites or Studio)

  1. In your panel, go to Website → Site settings.
  2. Stay on the Appearance tab.
  3. Under The look of your site, choose a kit. Each one has a short

description beside its name.

  1. Press Save all of it.
  2. Open your site in a new tab to see the result.

Switching kits in WordPress

  1. In WordPress, go to Meridian Photographers → Settings.
  2. On the Appearance tab, choose a kit under Style kit.
  3. Press Save Changes.

To try kits against your own photographs before you commit, use the live preview instead: Appearance → Customise → Meridian — Appearance → Style kit. Nothing changes on your live site until you press Publish there.

What changes, and what does not

Changes: the typefaces, the colours (including the dark sections and the footer), the space between sections, and how photographs fade or slide in as someone scrolls.

Does not change: where your header sits. Your studio name stays on the left and the menu on the right in every kit, so visitors never have to hunt for it.

Does not change: your pages. Trying a new kit repaints your site without moving or rewriting anything you have built.

Light and dark

Each kit has two sets of colours: one for the ordinary background most sections sit on, and a contrasting one for dark sections and the footer. Obsidian turns this round — a pale panel on a charcoal background — which is why it looks so different from the others.

Fine-tuning a kit

On a hosted plan

On the Appearance tab of Site settings:

  • Colours — Text colour, Background and Accent replace the kit's own colours. On the Studio plan, your own Accent also colours the buttons and links in your studio panel.
  • Type — Heading font and Body font take the name of any Google Fonts typeface, typed exactly as Google spells it (for example *Cormorant Garamond*). Heading weight and Body weight take numbers such as 300 (light), 400 (normal) or 500 (medium). Leave the font boxes empty to keep the kit's own pair, which is usually the right choice — each kit's typefaces are chosen to work together.

Press Save all of it after any change.

In WordPress

Under Meridian Photographers → Settings:

  • On the Appearance tab, Layout has four switches that sit on top of the kit: Header (name left with menu right, name centred with menu beneath, name and menu stacked on the left, or name only with the menu behind a button), Spacing (compact, regular or generous), Image entrance (curtain wipe, rise and fade, fade only, or none) and Small labels (uppercase, sentence case or italic). Each starts on Match the kit, so you get the kit's intended look until you choose otherwise.
  • On the Brand tab, Background, Text & dark sections and Accent override the kit's colours. Leave a box empty to use the kit's own colour — that is what keeps switching kits working. Fill them all in and your colours stay the same whichever kit you choose.

Press Save Changes after any change.
