Getting paid by bank transfer

Plenty of clients would rather pay by bank transfer than by card, and it saves you the card fee.

Everything here is on Business → Bank transfers.

Show your bank details on invoices

  1. Under Your bank details, fill in the Account name, BSB and

Account number. You must fill in both the BSB and the account number, or neither. A BSB is six digits.

  1. If you like, add a PayID and Anything else the client should know

(for example "Transfers can take a business day to arrive").

  1. Make sure Show these on invoices is ticked.
  2. Press Save.

Clients then see a Pay by bank transfer section on every invoice, below the card button, with the invoice number as the reference to use. That reference is what lets a payment be matched to the right invoice later.

Afterpay

Afterpay (buy now, pay later) is something you switch on in your own Stripe account, under Settings, then Payment methods. Once it is on, it appears by itself when clients pay by card, for amounts Afterpay accepts (in Australia, between $1 and $2,000).

Tick I have turned on Afterpay in my Stripe account, so say so on invoices only once you have done that. The box simply adds a line on your invoices telling clients they can use it.

Record one payment by hand

Open the invoice and use Record a payment. See invoices. You cannot record more than is owed, a date in the future, or a payment you have already recorded. The invoice is marked paid once it is covered.

Match a bank statement

If several clients have paid by transfer, let Meridian tick them off for you.

  1. In your online banking, download your recent transactions as a spreadsheet

file (banks usually call it a "CSV" export).

  1. On Business → Bank transfers, under Match your bank statement, choose

that file in Statement (CSV) and press Find the payments. The file is read and not kept.

  1. Under What your statement paid, each payment into your account is

listed with the invoice it seems to pay: - Sure: the invoice number is in the description and the amount is exactly what was owing. These are ticked for you. - Likely: no invoice number, but only one open invoice is for that amount. Check it before ticking. - Part payment: the invoice number is there, but the amount is less than what is owing. - No open invoice fits: left alone for you to look at. - Already recorded: a payment you have recorded before, so it cannot be counted twice.

  1. Tick the ones that are right and press Record the ticked payments.

Nothing is recorded until you press that button. Money going out of your account is ignored.
