Discount codes
Galleries → Selling → Codes. A code your clients type when they book or order prints, which takes an amount or a percentage off.
Making one
Under Create a code:
- Type The code — 3 to 32 letters, numbers or hyphens, such as
SPRING25or
FRIENDS-10. Capitals do not matter: a client typing spring25 gets the discount.
- Choose the Type: A percentage off (between 1 and 100) or An amount off
(in your own currency), and fill in how much.
- Choose what it Applies to (see below).
- Add any limits you want (see below).
- Press Create code.
An amount off is never more than the order. Fifty dollars off a thirty-five dollar print is thirty-five dollars off, not a refund of fifteen the client never paid.
Where it can be used
| Applies to | Used on |
|---|---|
| Bookings and prints | Both |
| Bookings only | Your booking page, not the gallery shop |
| Prints only | The gallery shop, not a booking |
Clients type the code in the Discount code box on your booking page, or at the gallery shop's checkout.
A code used in the wrong place says so plainly — That code only applies to prints — rather than silently not working.
Limits
All optional, and they can be combined.
- Minimum spend — so a 20% code cannot be spent on a single small print. A client under the minimum is told what it is, so they can add something rather than give up.
- Expires — a date. After it, the code says it has expired.
- How many times it can be used — in total. Leave it empty for no limit.
- Only once per client — one person cannot use the same code every month.
Two people using the last use of a code at the same instant cannot both have it: the second is told the code has been fully used.
What a client sees when a code does not work
A code that does not exist, or that you have paused, says only *That code is not valid.* — so nobody can sit guessing codes and find out which ones exist.
Otherwise the message says what is wrong, so the client can do something about it:
- That code has expired.
- That code has been fully used.
- That code only applies to prints (or to bookings).
- That code needs a minimum of …
- You have already used that code.
Tax
Tax is worked out on what the client actually pays, after the discount — not on the price before it. Leaving the original tax on a discounted sale would over-report GST on your BAS, and you would pay that out of your own pocket.
Pausing a code, and what it cost
The list shows each code with its discount, its conditions, how many times it has been Used, and how much you have Given away in total. Worth a look before you extend a code another month.
To stop a code, press Pause; press Resume to start it again. Codes are paused rather than deleted, so you keep the record of who used what.
If a client starts paying with a code and never finishes, that use is given back and the count goes down again.
Referral codes from referrals work the same way, with a few rules of their own.
