Downloads

Everything here is in the Settings panel on the gallery's own screen. Open Galleries → Galleries, click the gallery, change what you need, and press Save at the bottom of the panel.

What they can download

Downloads is the largest size you allow:

  • Viewing only — no downloads at all.
  • Web size — 1600 pixels on the long side, right for Instagram and phones.
  • High resolution — 2560 pixels on the long side, good for printing.
  • Originals — exactly the files you uploaded, for the 30 days after delivery that originals are kept. After that, downloads fall back to high resolution automatically.

Tick Let them choose a smaller size too and the client gets a **Download size switch in the gallery — For sharing, Full size and Original files**, up to the size you allowed. It saves clients downloading 40MB files for Instagram.

Clients download one photograph with the arrow on it, everything with Download all, or their list with Download my favourites. A large gallery takes a few minutes to put together.

Downloads are always off on a proofing gallery. To turn downloads off for every gallery at once, untick **Clients can download their photographs under What your clients can do in Settings → Settings**.

How many

How many they can download is a number, or 0 for no limit. Set it to 20 for a package of twenty digital files. The gallery tells them how many are left, and a photograph they have already downloaded can be downloaded again without using one up. A film counts as one.

Download all is offered only while everything still fits in what is left.

A PIN

Download PIN is four to six digits. Anybody with the link can look; only somebody with the PIN can download. The client is asked once, then their device remembers it for ninety days. Change the PIN and everybody is asked again. Leave it empty for no PIN.

Useful when a gallery goes to a whole wedding party and only the couple should be taking files.

Asking who is downloading

Tick Ask who is downloading and the first download asks for an email address. The addresses appear on the gallery's screen under Who downloaded, newest first, with the date of each one's first download.

With a PIN as well, both are asked for on one page.

Watermarks

Tick Watermark the previews with your studio name to mark what is shown on screen: the previews and the small pictures in the grid, burned into the photographs themselves. Downloads are never marked. Then choose:

  • Watermark size: Small, Medium or Large.
  • Where it sits: any corner, bottom centre, the centre, or **Repeated across the photo** (for proofs you do not want screenshotted).
  • How visible: Faint, Medium or Strong.
  • Words: what the mark says. Leave it empty for your studio's name, or the name of the gallery's brand kit if it has one.

A watermark change applies to photographs uploaded after you save it. To mark the ones already there, press Mark the photos already here under the settings. It redoes the previews in the background. It cannot run once a gallery's originals have been cleared out.

Screenshot protection

Tick Discourage saving and screenshots to make the photographs harder to take off the gallery page. Right-click and long-press saving are turned off, photographs cannot be dragged off or selected, the shortcuts for viewing the page's source, saving it and opening the developer tools are refused, printing the page shows no photographs, the photographs disappear for a moment when the screenshot keys are pressed on a computer, and they blur when the window is not in front.

No web page can stop a phone's own screenshot buttons or a camera pointed at the screen, so pair it with a watermark if it matters. Downloads you allow still work as normal.
