Backups
What we do for you
Every hosted site is backed up every night, automatically. The copies are locked so only we can read them, stored away from your site, and the last thirty days are kept. Gallery photographs are kept in separate storage that holds its own copies.
You do not need to do anything to turn this on.
Download your own copy
Our backups are a safety net for a problem on our side. A copy you hold yourself is better still, and worth taking before anything big, such as a redesign or a big clear-out.
- Go to Website → Site settings.
- Open the Site details tab.
- Under Take a copy of everything, leave Include the photographs ticked
if you want your website's photographs too. Without them the file is small and quick; with them it can take a while.
- Press Download a copy.
You get one file with your pages, posts, portfolio and settings.
Your studio's records (clients, bookings, invoices, contracts and so on) are downloaded separately, as spreadsheet files: see getting your data out.
Where to keep it
Not only on the computer you downloaded it to. Put a copy somewhere else as well: Dropbox, Google Drive, an external drive. A copy that sits beside the thing it is protecting is not much of a backup.
Getting something back
If something has gone missing or been deleted by mistake, raise a ticket as soon as you can and tell us what and roughly when. We can restore from the nightly copies from the last thirty days.
A deleted site is also held for 30 days before it is erased; see hosted sites.
